Baby Item of the Week

Our neighbor from across the street, Linda gave us our very first baby gift and did it in record time. We told her and some other dear neighborhood friends recently. Almost as soon as the words came out of our mouths she was dashing back to her house to give us this cute baby baseball outfit.

I'm guessing this isn't going to be the last piece of baseball paraphernalia this child will see.

Thanks, Linda!

(And now for a shameless plug)

If you'd like to make a donation to the grape's future, you can visit our Target gift registry. There's plenty of adorable grape gear and even a few items that don't have anything to do with baseball!

The Tell Tour: The Boys

Adam and I have had a friendly rivalry over who is the better uncle to Rob's son, Ben. I have Mariners tickets, unlimited access to Safeco Field and the Mariner Moose in my corner. How are you going to top that unless you work for Willy Wonka?

Well, to announce the big news to my two best friends, I decided to relinquish the "Greatest Uncle" title to Adam. Of course, I'm not giving it up that easily. There's an asterisk on the shirt noting that the moniker is only "valid after 3/5/09."

Rob got a shirt, too. He's going to be a terrific uncle, just like he's a terrific dad. I'm thrilled to have both these guys and their lovely wives be a part of the grape's life.

The Tell Tour: ET & Merideth

We shared the big news with my former roommate and his lovely bride via a supposed invitation for our annual Kelly Greene St. Patrick's Day party.

We ordered a gin and tonic for Elisa to further the ruse. (For the record, she didn't touch it, so you can put down the phone to Child Protective Services). I ordered a Sprite under the guise of indigestion.

The fake invite read:

(front)
Kelly Greene 4
No Need for a Good Luck Charms This Year...

(inside)
We'll already have one!

With the news being completely out of the blue, we had them stumped. So, we went to plan B and swapped Elisa's adult beverage for my soda. The light went off and Erin figured it out. Two beats later Merideth got it, as well. Hugs and tears followed.

Here's a terrible photo reenactment of how it went down.

St. Patrick's Day party card in August, say wha?!

OMG we get it. You're having a baby!!!!!

Jalapenos, tomatoes and then, a grape

Meet the little Greene grape. Adorable, huh?

How did we get here?

Let me explain how the birds, the bees and the ingredients for the salsa add up to this.

Harken back to mid-July, when the nation was gripped by a salmonella scare from tomatoes and jalapenos. Our dear heroine, Elisa became quite ill and thought she had food poisoning from some excellent salsa we had made during the summer. Then she felt better for a week and then came a pain in her side.

With this odd array of symptoms, Elisa decided to pay her doctor a visit and what do you know? We had ourselves a little one, about the size of a grape, ten weeks in the making!
